چکیده
Unlike the state-of-the-art plasma nitriding technologies where a low ionisation glow discharge is used, of CoCrMo alloy was carried out in an industrial size vacuum coater, utilising novel high ionisation, power impulse magnetron sputtering mixed with unbalanced discharge. Three different voltages were used for process. To generate more ions, two pairs Cr and Nb targets also operated at N2:H2 gas atmosphere. Dry sliding pin on disc tests performed room temperature to measure coefficient friction estimate wear coefficient. In case samples nitrided lower bias such as ?700 V ?900 V, oxidative mild mechanism identified dominant mechanism. For higher voltage ?1100 despite formation oxide based tribolayer, severe abrasion predominant due operation three body contact involving hardness particles. Among samples, sample best lowest Kc = 1.11 × 10–15 m3N?1m?1 Knoop microhardness 2230 HK0.010.

Tribocorrosion of Pulsed Plasma-Nitrided CoCrMo Implant Alloy
In the present study, a forged CoCrMo (ISO 5832-12) has been subjected to pulsed plasma treatment in a N2/H2 atmosphere at low temperatures (below 500 C). This treatment resulted in the formation of a layer composed by dispersed chromium nitride particles in a N-enriched metal matrix. The materials were tested for corrosion and tribocorrosion performance in 0.9 wt% NaCl at room temperature unde...
متن کاملNanoscale Abrasive Wear of CoCrMo in In Situ TEM Sliding
The mechanical behaviour of materials at nanometre dimensions has been a major recent topic of research. In this study, the wear properties of a *60-nm thin foil made of the ductile fcc phase of a CoCrMo alloy were examined using in situ sliding test in a transmission electron microscope by sliding a silicon AFM tip on the fcc matrix under an applied normal load of 416–1,279 nN. The material ne...
متن کاملIntergranular pitting corrosion of CoCrMo biomedical implant alloy.
CoCrMo samples of varying microstructure and carbon content were electrochemically corroded in vitro and examined by scanning electron microscopy and electron backscatter diffraction techniques. The rate of corrosion was minimized (80% reduction from icorr = 1396 nA/cm(2) to icorr = 276 nA/cm(2) ) in high-carbon CoCrMo alloys which displayed a coarser grain structure and partially dissolved sec...
متن کاملCerium Addition Improved the Dry Sliding Wear Resistance of Surface Welding AZ91 Alloy
In this study, the effects of cerium (Ce) addition on the friction and wear properties of surface welding AZ91 magnesium alloys were evaluated by pin-on-disk dry sliding friction and wear tests at normal temperature. The results show that both the friction coefficient and wear rate of surfacing magnesium alloys decreased with the decrease in load and increase in sliding speed. The surfacing AZ9...
متن کاملEFFECTS OF Al-5TI-1B MASTER ALLOY AND HEAT TREATMENT ON THE MICROSTRUCTURE AND DRY SLIDING WEAR BEHAVIOR OF AN Al-12Zn-3Mg-2.5Cu ALLOY
In this study the effect of Al–5Ti–1B grain refiner on the structural characteristics and wear properties of Al–12Zn–3Mg–2.5Cu alloy was investigated. The optimum amount for Ti containing grain refiners was selected as 2 wt.%. T6 heat treatment, (i.e. heating at 460 °C for 1 h before water quenching to room temperature and then aging at 120 °C for 24 h) was applied for all specimens before wear...
